The company behind an illegally constructed transient workforce accommodation facility near Wickham has been given one month to remove it or face further action.

The City of Karratha first inspected the site and became aware of the operating transient workforce accommodation facility on July 14.

Council documents indicated Diverse Group Australia believed the TWA camp was required to provide 24-hour shutdown maintenance services for Rio Tinto, however Rio has advised there are available beds at Birra Birra Camp B and in Wickham.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said no planning application was received and therefore compliance action was taken

“Diverse Group has been given one month from the date of council resolution to not support the application for TWA to remove it,” he said.

“Council will continue to pursue compliance action if the camp is not removed.”
