Bunbury trainer David Jones netted $32,500 in a win at the Roebourne Cup last Saturday in the top race.

Jones’ horse Comfortably got its third win on the trot after first-place finishes in the Port Hedland 1600m Dessert Goddess and the Avery Quality Survey 1600m in Marble Bar.

Comfortably finished ahead of the favoured Saxon’s Patch and Rive Gauche, who came in second and third place respectively.

There was a bit of work to do from the get-go, and starting out of the No. 8 gate, Comfortably stayed around the middle of the pack before charging home.

Eyes Don’t Lie picked up $13,000 for Exmouth trainer Peter Dellar in the XXXX Gold Settlers 1200m.

Eye View held off a last-second sprint from Me Hungi in the Double R-Publicans Purse 1800m.

The Vendetta won the first race of the day.

Local trainer Michael Ball had a first-place finish with Sentoki in the Auslec Handicap, third place with Choisime in the third race, fourth place in the first race with Catalini Secret, and an eighth-place finish in the final race of the day.

Brett Southcott’s Internationalist won the last race of the day.

Although a foreboding forecast had some worried the race meet could be cancelled, aside from a few drops of rain, it was an overcast and slightly windy afternoon devoid of any downfalls.

The weather didn’t affect the crowd numbers, with the Nor West Jockey Club absolutely packed with punters dressed in their racing finest.

As is traditional, the final race meet for the Roebourne season also included a massive game of two-up that carried on from sunset into the early evening.
