‘Dipper’ visits Pilbara

Hawthorn AFL legend Robert “Dipper” DiPierdomenico was in the Pilbara last week for coaching clinics with local teams and schools.

An AFL Auskick ambassador, he visited St Paul’s and Pegs Creek Primary Schools on Wednesday, to the excitement of students and staff.

“Dipper” said he loved getting all around the country teaching kids about football and sport in general.

“It’s just great to see footy’s being kicked right across this great country of ours,” he said.

“To be back in the Pilbara is great because it has been four or five years since I’ve been up here and it’s great to be welcomed back.”

He said there was some great young talent in the Pilbara and possibly some future AFL stars.

“That’s what the Auskick program is about, to make sure we tap into this talent and to just make sure the kids enjoy playing football,” he said.

“Dipper” played 240 games and kicked 130 goals with the Hawks over 15 years before retiring in 1991.
