Easter egg hunt draws hundreds of kids
The community-wide Easter egg hunt put on by the Hampton Harbour Boat and Sailing Club on Easter Sunday drew local children in their hundreds.
Families braved sweltering temperatures in their mission to collect enough fluorescent plastic egg tokens along the Dampier foreshore, which they swapped for a basket of chocolate eggs and treats from the Easter bunny.
At the club, they were further rewarded with a complimentary sausage sizzle, fruit and icy poles all morning.
There were also pony rides, balloon animal-making, a bouncy castle, and prizes for best Easter costume on offer.
This is only the second time the HHBSC, with funding assistance from the Dampier Community Association, has run the Easter egg hunt, but its popularity showed in the jump in attendance from 50 participants in 2015 to 300 this year.
HHBSC functions manager Katie Weeding said they had expanded the event to accommodate growing demand.
“I was overwhelmed with how many families wanted to participate,” she said.
“I think that the town really craves some family events, and that’s what we’re all about at the boat club here.”
The event finished with a raffle draw to raise money for a playground and shades for the club.
