Pilbara MLA Brendon Gryll’s “star power” has him sitting as an outside chance to become the next leader of the Federal National’s party if you fancy a flutter.

Sportsbet’s novelty markets have Mr Grylls at $12 to take the reins despite not yet announcing any intentions to have a tilt at a Federal seat.

Mr Grylls said an announcement about his future would be made in the next week or so.

Sportsbet spokesman Ben Bulmer said it was only a matter of time before current Nationals leader Warren Truss resigned, with punters having him at $2 to retire before Parliament resumes.

“Barnaby Joyce is the punters pick to be the next Federal National Party leader, but don’t count out WA National Brendon Grylls who would be a front runner if he decides to make the move to Canberra,” he said.

“Grylls’ star power is evidenced by the fact he is sitting on the fifth line of betting at $12 and this is all before he’s secured a seat in the Federal Parliament let alone announced his intention to run.”

Barnaby Joyce is the favourite to fill Mr Truss’ shoes at $1.10, followed by Michael McCormack at $7.50 and Darren Chester at $9.

Mr Truss is sitting at $1.05 as the next leader to step down, ahead of Opposition leader Bill Shorten at $8.50.
