Fifty riders braved a hilly 5.5km course in round 3 of the Burrup Mountain Bike Club competition on Saturday.

With plenty of long steady climbs followed by technical downhills to put their skills to the test, the classic trails tackled included Dogs Hollow, Thunderbox and Hidden Valley.

After leading convincingly in the elite open category, Toby Muller suffered a flat tyre on the final lap and was reeled in by Brett Buckland (1hr 5min. 39sec.) and Nick Muller (1:06:04).

An exciting battle for third place saw Muller (1:08:09) narrowly hold off a barnstorming finish from Cam Kidd (1:08:17).

In elite women's, Amanda Ewin (1:12:42), continued her dominant start to the season and enjoyed the climbs to close the gap on the top-five elite open riders.

Tracey Chapman had a great ride coming in an impressive second place (1:18:49).

The other first-place rides went to Janyce Crawford in the expert women, Simon Blythe for expert male, Jane Errey in sports women, Dylan Muller in sports men and Cameron Crane in junior men.

Round 4 promises to continue the season's theme of a different challenge every race.

All new riders are welcomed with round 3 drawing riders come up from Perth to enjoy the Pilbara trails.

A club skill sessions will be held on June 6 and 7 followed by Dr Baynton's 6 Hour Remedy race on June 20.

As always a great group of volunteers worked hard to make round 3 a success.
