Flames division 1 Black scorch Trouts White to claim Karratha Basketball Association’s women’s title
The Flames division 1 Black capped off a stellar season with a dominant grand final performance, trouncing Trouts to claim the Karratha Basketball Association women’s premiership.
Table-toppers Flames had won 13 of their 16 games during the regular season and continued that dominant form in the grand final at the Karratha Lesuireplex on April 2.
Trouts drew first blood in the game, taking a 5-1 lead before Flames settled their nerves and got to work.
The back-and-forth first half saw both sides scoring before Flames Black were able to fight back and take a three-point lead at half-time, 16-13.
It was in the second half that Flames lifted, carrying their momentum to run away with the game and scoring 24 points in the second half to secure the win, 40 to 28.
Mia Grantham proved the difference between the two sides, scoring 20 points for Flames while teammate’s Chelsea Slater and Cheyenne Wailu chipped in with eight and six points, respectively.
Jessica Newbold was the top scorer for Trouts with nine points.
Grantham was named the MVP for the final.
In division two, Majik edged out Flames division 2 Black in a nail-biting contest 27-25.
It was a slow start to the game, with Majik holding an 11-5 lead at half-time before a second-half fight-back from Flames tightened up the contest.
In the end Majik proved too strong, taking the victory and the premiership by two points.
Division three was another close contest with Trouts Blue edging out Flames Orange by just three points.
Trouts held a slender two-point lead at half-time and outlasted Flames in the close tussle to claim the victory 21-18.
