Fundraising effort is a sweet success

A team from MMA Offshore in Dampier has joined the launch of RSPCA WA's sweetest fundraising event of the year, in which local animal lovers fight cruelty with cupcakes.

On Monday, the MMA Offshore logistics administration team baked, iced and sold dozens of cakes to raise funds for the thousands of sick, injured and neglected animals helped by the organisation each year.

MMA Offshore spokeswoman Amy Smythe said RSPCA Cupcake Day was a good opportunity for employees to get to know each other while supporting a worthy cause.

"Every year, MMA Offshore supports a fundraiser and this year our staff has been very generous getting behind the RSPCA Cupcake Day," she said.

"Everyone in our team loves animals and cupcakes, so it seemed a perfect fit for us."

RSPCA WA chief executive David van Ooran said Cupcake Day was a fun way for animal lovers who wanted to help make a difference to raise much-needed funds for RSPCA WA's work.

"Even though animal cruelty is something people often don't want to think about, the fact is that every dollar counts when it comes to our rescue work and so we'd really appreciate people supporting us by participating in this important fundraiser," he said.

"We think there's no better way to help RSPCA WA than by baking, icing, selling and eating cupcakes during August, and the fact that it can be combined with a morning tea for friends and work colleagues is just the icing on the cake."

Funds raised through Cupcake Day will directly help all creatures great and small across WA.

RSPCA WA needs to raise 94 per cent of its operating expenses, as only 6 per cent is covered by a grant from the State Government.
