Exmouth’s green thumbs are showing off the shoots of their labour with the expansion of the town’s community garden.

The Exmouth Community Garden, next to the Men’s Shed, last month turned the soil on its first garden beds and composting facilities for the public to benefit from.

Community garden vice-president Violeta Jahnel Brosig said the garden would serve as a meeting place, as well as a hub for those interested in learning about sustainable gardening practices and fresh produce.

“Gardening in this challenging climate can be a struggle and the committee believes a community garden will greatly assist all residents to share gardening knowledge,” she said.

“In a vibrant community like Exmouth, we would like to learn from each other, share our knowledge, promote healthy habits and be good citizen role models for the children.

“Long-term, the founding members would like this space to become available for mums and bubs groups, school projects and even a venue for outdoor yoga or meditation classes.”

The garden will also be a place for local businesses to compost their scraps.

An educational partnership with TAFE has been formed to run gardening workshops.

Ms Brosig said the group was now looking for more members to join up and help the garden grow.
