Grants help rising stars
Up-and-coming athletes in North West Central have the chance to apply for round two of the government-funded Athlete Travel Subsidy Scheme.
The subsidies offer financial assistance to athletes aged between 13 and 21 to offset costs associated with travel, accommodation and competition at regional, State, national or international level.
Member for North West Central Vince Catania said the ATSS continued to nurture talented young athletes in the regions, giving them a leg-up when it came to pursuing their sporting dreams.
"Royalties for Regions is providing $1.75 million over four years specifically to assist regional athletes succeed in reaching their sporting dreams," he said.
"I encourage any eligible athlete to pursue the opportunity for financial support by applying for an ATSS grant online or through their local Department of Sport and Recreation office."
To date more than 1000 aspiring athletes Statewide have benefitted from ATSS grants, helping improve their performance opportunities and allowing many to progress.
Successful applicants have represented a broad range of sporting codes, from AFL and netball to water polo, BMX, rowing, basketball, surfing and equestrian events.
Round two applications are open until January 23, covering eligible travel dates between September 15, 2014, and April 15, 2015.
