‘Gurg set for Karratha return
Australian rock icons, Regurgitator, will bring their catalogue of hits to the stage at the Beats in the Heat Festival.
Spanning three decades of epic music, live shows and generally quirky behaviour , The ‘Gurg' will return to Karratha on Saturday, August 8.
Regurgitator's debut studio album Tu-Plang earned the band a significant following, before the release of their second album, Unit won the ARIA Award for Best Album of 1998.
Their eighth studio album, Dirty Pop Fantasy, would be the last creation from Brisbane musicians Quan Yeomans, Ben Ely and Peter Kostic, before going their separate ways to spend more time on their lives away from music.
Guitarist and lead vocalist Quan Yeomans said he was excited to get back on the road, after taking an eighteen month break to adjust to fatherhood.
“I love being a dad and in some ways the endless touring we used to do and complete lack of sleep on tour has prepared me for being a father,” he said.
“We played a month ago at a gig in Queensland to see if we could still remember how to play our instruments, it was really good feeling to return to the stage.
“Even though we stopped for a year and a half, we still love playing live, we still love jumping around and yelling.
“We just have to warm up our muscles a little bit more than when we were younger.”
Yeomens said fans could expect an energetic performance when the Gurg hit the stage in Karratha.
“You can expect us to jump around a lot and enjoy ourselves and hopefully we can convey that energy to the crowd” he said.
“The energy is always somewhat different when you’re playing to a regional crowd…they seem to appreciate your music more…city crowds can get a bit passé about performances.
“We are really excited to return to Karratha and see how it has changed since we were there in 2013…I’m always surprised by these outback country towns, they evolve incredible quickly.”
Yeomans said the group was recording their first ever album on their upcoming tour around Australia.
“We haven’t done any auto tuning or pre-recording or anything like that, so it’s pretty raw,” he said.
“I’m going to suggest people get drunk before they listen to it, to smooth out the rough, edges.
“It will be a double album released on vinyl and a couple of other formats, we’ve never done that before so will be interesting to see what people think about it.”
Regurgitator will play Beats in the Heat Festival on Saturday August 8 at the Karratha Leisureplex.
General Admission tickets are selling for $109, VIP tickets cost $199 and camping cost $19 from the Beats in the Heat website and Facebook page.
