Hungry St Paul’s Primary School students enjoyed baked treats for a good cause at their first Anzac bake sale on Thursday.

Hundreds of Anzac biscuits home-made by St Paul’s parents were on sale for 50 cents each during lunchtime, raising hundreds of dollars in funds for ex-servicemen and women through the Anzac appeal.

St Paul’s canteen manager Karen Tollison said she had wanted to hold a fundraiser for Anzac Day and knew children were always keen to donate for food.

“The defence force does so much for us, it’s good to do something back,” she said.

Pilbara Regiment Corporal Tim Conquest and Private Malcolm Jongedyk visited the school during lunchtime and were peppered with questions about their armoured military truck.

“It makes a bit more real for the kids, rather than just hearing stories, to get some of the equipment out there,” Cpl Conquest said.

Ms Tollison said spending time talking to members of the military helped teach children respect and that “they’re not that scary”.

She hoped to hold another Anzac appeal bake sale next year.
