Staff at Spirit Radio 1260FM Karratha found a way to celebrate the dual causes of volunteering and health in one go last Wednesday.

The team thought up a unique way to acknowledge SES awareness-raising day Wear Orange Wednesday, which is held in the middle of National Volunteer Week, by combining it with their regular World Record Wednesday segment.

They asked the public to bring them as many oranges as possible while they broadcast live from outside the Karratha SES station from 8-9am.

The call to action clearly worked, as listeners delivered 133 oranges to the SES base, giving the radio team healthy snacks to last for some time.

Breakfast announcer Pablo Miller said the team was impressed with the response.

“It was amazing to see our listeners embrace and get behind Karratha SES and WOW day,” he said.

“The SES is an integral service for regional WA and it’s great to give back to an organisation that gives so much to us here in the Pilbara.”
