Karratha riders dominate competition
Karratha riders and horses blitzed the competition recently at the North West Horse of the Year, which was hosted by South Hedland Owners and Trainers Association in South Hedland on the weekend of September 21 and 22.
Competitors travelled from as far as Tom Price and Newman to compete in halter, hacking, dressage and showjumping events.
Seven riders from Karratha made the trip to compete at HOTY, an event that is worked towards all year, with the Karratha Riders coming away with some successful results over the weekend.
Mikayla Newhouse with her horse Dancer took the Champion Pony title.
Brooke Benbow cleaned up with her horse Capitol in the Champion Senior Handler, Supreme Champion Inhand and Reserve Champion Hack categories.
Kate Redmond on horses Prada on Show and Chanel No 5 took out the Champion Hack, Supreme Ridden Showhorse and Reserve Champion Senior Rider.
Reserve Champion Senior Handler was won by Natasha Selton and Docs Ebony Knight.
Chloe Palmer won the Reserve Champion Senior Dressage and the Champion Senior Showjumper on horses Wally Wizard and Go the Oh.
Hannah Kotzem together with Balfour Tiger Tim was one of the biggest winners of the weekend, with some big wins in Champion Junior Handler, Reserve Champion Galloway, Champion Junior Rider, Champion Junior Dressage and Reserve Champion Junior Showjump.
