Kats cap weekend of upsets
The Port Hedland Rovers capped a weekend of upsets with a 21-point away win over the Karratha Kats.
The Kats came out of the blocks strong with a seven-goal first quarter, and consolidated their position to go into the main break ahead 9.3 (57) to 6.6 (42).
But a hard-running Rovers pack got the away side within sniffing distance, just four points adrift going into the final term. Despite some entertaining end-to-end footy, accuracy won the match in the end as the Rovers slotted four of five scoring shots down the middle to the Kats’ five points.
The final score was 14.9 (93) to 11.11 (77) in favour of the Rovers, who have now leapfrogged the Kats into third on the table.
In the reserves, the Rovers had a bad day at the office after failing to score a single point in a 128-nil rout.
Shane Mallard and Steven Maxwell led from the front for the Kats with five goals each.
The win puts the Kats on equal points at the top of the table with the Wolves, while the Rovers are now on equal points at the bottom of the table.
