Kats deliver bruising defeat to Falcons, Dampier down Wickham in women’s North Pilbara Football League

The Karratha Kats showed their class in the latest round of the North Pilbara Football League women’s competition with a crushing 70 point victory over the Falcons, 11.5 (71) to 0.1 (1). The round 12 game took place at Millars Well Oval on July 22 with the Kats showing why they were last year’s premiers. The Kats led by 13 points at the end of the first quarter before putting their foot down in the second term to hold a 39-point lead at half time while keeping the Falcons scoreless. The dominant performance continued in the second half with the home side continuing to build on their lead while conceding just one behind in the final term. The victory extends the Kats’ unbeaten run this season to 10 games and they sit 20 points clear of second-placed Dampier Sharks. Cerys English, Brookelyn Gilbert, Asharnti Mowarin, Sarah Ugle and Brohdi Woods all booted two goals each for the Kats. In the other game of the round, Dampier Sharks faced off against the struggling Wickham Wolves at Windy Ridge Oval. Wolves took a slim one point lead over the Sharks into the first break 1.1 to 1.0. However it did not take long for the Dampier side to find form and regain the lead in the second term. The arm wrestle continued, with the Sharks overrunning the Wickham side 5.4 (34) to 2.6 (18). Tiahnee Pasche starred for the Sharks with three goals while Estee Pinder and Jayda Willock scored Wickham’s two goals
