The new ladies water polo team got off to a Kraken start to the season at the Karratha Leisureplex, with a 5-4 win over reigning champions the Barracudas.
At three quarter time the game was drawn at 3-3 but in the end the Krakens got over the line after an outstanding performance from Ashleigh Homes and Jessica Newbold who both scored in the last quarter.
Homes was voted fairest and best for the Krakens, followed by Barracudas’ Julie- Anne Elkins and Krakens’ Nicki Lampard.
The Cudas had better luck in their first game, defeating the Pirates 4-3.
Fairest and best was awarded to Barracudas’ Lily Moore and Kylie Vial and Anouska Angove received a vote from the Pirates.
The Krakens men’s side have also set the bar high this season, taking out Barracudas 9-5.
Fairest and best went to Byron Newbold, Resse Child and Dean Murray.
It was a disappointing start to the season for the men’s Pirate’s side, who forfeited against the Barracudas.
