Library hosts historical talks for Heritage Festival

The National Trust Heritage Festival is back from April 16-May 18.

Join the City of Karratha libraries for five events exploring Australia’s historical, natural and Aboriginal heritage.

In May, you can head along to Pearling and Shipping in the North West, a talk about maritime history presented by the WA Museum.

You’ll discover the important role pearling and coastal shipping played in the development of the North West before the mining boom in the 1960s, when road and airport infrastructure replaced shipping as the main way of conveying goods and people.

The talk will be held at the Bond Store in Cossack on Saturday, May 7 from 1pm-2.30pm.

The cost is a gold coin donation.

There will also be two talks by Dr Ken Mulvaney on the abundant Aboriginal rock art of the Dampier Archipelago, held at Karratha library on Thursday, May 12 from 5.30pm-6.30pm and at the Dampier Community Hall on Saturday, May 14 from 11am-12.30pm.

The talks are free but bookings are required.

They have been very popular in the past so it is recommended those interested get in quick.
