The Baynton Lions have made their way into the final of the West Pilbara Cricket Association’s 40 over competition with a two-wicket win over the Rec Club.

Playing in their first season, the Lions scrapped through for victory courtesy of a barnstorming 89 not out from star batsman Muhammad Khan.

Khan, who is the leading run scorer in the competition this season, combined with Dayanand Gawade (37) for a 61-run partnership as they looked to chase down the Rec Clubs 206-run total.

Khan and Amritpal Singh (2no) finished the job to see the Lions progress to the finals in their first season.

Earlier in the match the Rec Club set themselves up well through a career best knock from Casey Vanden Bergh (118).

The Reccers were looking on track to replicate their run-a-ball total set against the Lion’s in their previous game but lost late wickets chasing quick runs.

Gawade (4/37) proved invaluable with the ball for the Lions but the Rec Clubs Richard Anderson was the pick of the bowlers with 3/17 of eight overs.

Over at Millars Well, the undefeated Karratha Kats romped to a six-wicket victory in an 85-run win over the Dampier Taverners.

The Kats batted first and half centuries to Corey Rutgers (77) and Cameron Nowotny (50) ensured another large total from the home side.

The Taverners were unable to match the high tempo set by the Kats, with plenty of batsmen making starts but none going on to post a big score.

Nino Sturgeon (3/16) and Leon Silvio (3/32) both claimed three wickets as the Kats closed the game out in the 35th over.
