Loyal Abbott supporter pledges more of the same for Turnbull
Federal Member of Durack Melissa Price could be seen closely following Tony Abbott out of the party room last week, as a final show of loyalty after Liberal MPs voted to dump the embattled Prime Minister only two years into his first term.
MP Malcolm Turnbull prevailed in the party room ballot 54 votes to 44 and was sworn in as Australia’s 29th Prime Minister on September 15.
In a statement provided to thePilbara News , Ms Price said she had been a loyal supporter of Tony Abbott for many years.
“Obviously I supported Tony Abbott in the leadership vote,” she said.
“Abbott has always been supportive of Durack and me.
“However Malcolm Turnbull has been democratically elected leader of the party and he will enjoy the same loyalty.”
Ms Price said the leadership changeover would not take away her focus from the Durack electorate.
“Since being elected as the Member for Durack just over two years ago, my entire focus has been on working hard for the people of Durack,” she said.
“I will continue to listen to the good folk of Durack, and work hard for them.
“In this time there have been 12,500 new jobs in Durack and I’m committed on creating more jobs and other tasks such as addressing the ice scourge.”
Ms Price announced she was currently accepting expressions of interest for the Durack Stronger Communities Programme.
“The DSCP will fund youth projects throughout Durack, which will help improve the social fabric of towns throughout Durack,” she said.
