Meaty snack’s creator eyes top prize
A steak sandwich is the staple of any country pub’s menu and the Karratha Tavern is no exception.
Their giant, meaty sandwich is an entrant into this year’s WA’s Best Country Pub Steak Sandwich.
Chef Inyoman Lariawan said it was a great sandwich.
“It comes with tomato, barbecue sauce and some caramelised onion, cheese on top and beetroot,” he said.
Karratha Tavern general manager Mick Brown said he was really happy to enter the sandwich into the State competition.
“They’re pretty popular the steak sandwiches here, they go over fairly well,” he said.
“They’re all hungry, hard workers up here so we move a few of them.”
Mr Brown said everyone was really happy with the sandwich and he thought it had a good chance in the competition. Australian
Hotels Association chief executive Bradley Woods said the competition was in its fifth year.
“The steak sandwich is a highlight of any country pub menu because it pulls together everything that is great about a country pub, from the home-style cooking to the locally grown produce,” he said.
“We want people visiting country pubs knowing that no matter where they are in WA, they can enjoy a unique, delicious and fresh steak sandwich that represents great value for money.
“We have some of the best country pubs in some of the most unique tourism regions in Australia and we want to celebrate the steak sandwich being an iconic taste of country WA.”
