Dates for Tom Price’s annual Nameless Jarndumunha Festival have been announced, with the event to happen on the weekend of August 9-11.

The town’s premier event, which will have the theme Winter Wonderland, is celebrating its 42nd year.

With redevelopment set to put the Clem Thomson Oval and Sports Pavilion out of action, there are plans to scatter events around the town.

Shire of Ashburton community development executive manager Deb Wilkes said redevelopment works were originally planned for this month but had since been rescheduled to May.

“We understand how this will affect sporting groups and, in particular, the Nameless Jarndumunha Festival,” she said.

“We have agreed to work co-operatively with them to find alternative plans.

“The Nameless Festival will still go ahead. It is an iconic and important event for the town.”

Ms Wilkes said the Shire looked forward to having a state-of-the art recreational facility for Tom Price which would attract sporting groups from throughout the Pilbara.

Festival committee president Linda McCarthy said the change in construction dates had led to the exciting prospect of having the festival spread out among multiple venues in town, hopefully encouraging wider community involvement.

“The Nameless Jarndumunha Festival committee will continue to work in collaboration with the Shire of Ashburton and the Small Business Association to ensure that the festival goes ahead as planned,” she said.

“We see this as an opportunity to embrace and change the look of the festival for 2013 while the oval is undergoing the redevelopment.”

Completion of the redevelopment at Clem Thomson Oval and Sports Pavilion is expected for September.
