National Roadshow is set for a return to the Pilbara

The WA Rugby League has confirmed the National Rugby League Roadshow will return to the Pilbara in May.

It will be held from May 11-18 and is timed to coincide with a rugby league nines tournament in Wickham and also the first round of the Pilbara Rugby League competition.

Four high-profile game ambassadors will visit the region for the week-long trip.

Last year rugby league stars Trent Barrett and Mario Fenech held sessions in Karratha, Wickham and Port Hedland and were involved in fundraising for the Pilbara Rugby League Association.

WA Rugby League chief executive John Sackson said the NRL and WARL were very committed to the growth of the sport in the Pilbara.

“This is not only reflected in the appointment of Chris Newman as the full-time North West Development Officer, but also in the confirmation we will again be staging an NRL Roadshow following on from the successful inaugural event in May 2012,” he said.

“This initiative will not only strengthen the foundation and profile of the code by way of school visits, junior clinics, coaching master-classes, referee mentoring and media promotion, it will also enrich the local communities via inspirational health, education and positive lifestyle messages delivered by some of the greatest legends of the game.”

Sackson said he was confident this year’s event would be bigger and better.
