Shire president Fiona White-Hartig said Mr King would provide support to all community sport and recreation groups in Karratha, Dampier, Wickham, Roebourne and Point Samson.

“Sam will contribute to the ongoing development and sustainability of community sporting organisations by providing professional support and advice,” she said.

“Sam will disperse important information, conduct workshops, provide knowledge for sustainable club futures, assist with community projects and act as a point-of-contact for community sport and recreation groups at the Shire.”

Mr King said he was looking forward to assisting clubs with their development and getting to know the people involved within the sporting community.

“I am hoping to become a valuable resource for community sport and recreation clubs,” he said.

The position is a newly created one and Mr King said although any new role was a challenge he was looking forward to contributing to the community.

“My initial focus will be on building the club development program, along with stakeholders and the community, to deliver development opportunities,” he said.

“Community clubs are always in need of volunteers to fill various roles and finding ways to assist in this area is something I will work towards.”
