Ngarliyarndu Bindirri Aboriginal Corporation ensures post services continue in Roebourne

Ngarliyarndu Bindirri Aboriginal Corporation has become the official licensee for the Roebourne post office, ensuring postal services will continue in the community after the previous licensee retired earlier this year.

Previous Roebourne post shop licensee Garry Bailey retired after more than three decades at the helm in February this year, leaving the service with an uncertain future before NBAC’s announcement.

NBAC took over the reins on March 5, running the service in the interim period until it became the official licensee.

NBAC chairperson and senior Ngarluma elder David Walker said it was great news for the community.

“This is a big milestone for the community,” he said.

“Roebourne is the oldest town in the North West and this essential service would have disappeared if NBAC didn’t step in.”

NBAC chief executive Francois Langlois said it was an exciting and important step for Roebourne.

“NBAC is continuing the work started by our old people over 50 years ago to support all Aboriginal people,” he said.

“I’m proud of the work completed by the NBAC team and thank everyone who has worked alongside us so far.”

Roebourne residents rely on the post office for banking services, buying pay-as-you-go electricity cards, mobile phone transactions, bill payments and receiving crucial Government communications.
