Ningaloo image feast

An underwater snap of a whale shark has won Exmouth resident Violeta Jahnel Brosig the $1000 prize in Exmouth Visitor Centre’s 2016 Ningaloo photography competition.

The judging panel decided Ms Brosig’s image summed up one of the Ningaloo region’s eco-adventure highlights.

Of special mention was 14-year-old Hayden Mumby’s entry, whose image of an osprey in mid-flight near Exmouth’s Bundegi Beach won the children’s category, placed second overall and second in the wildlife category.

Humpback whale photos made the finalists’ list, with Jacob Hill’s aerial image taking the unique experience category, Jackie Brown snapping the wildlife category winner and Aimee Jan’s image gaining third place overall.

Exmouth Visitor Centre general manager Kristy Bryan-Smith said the judging panel had a hard time deciding on the winners.

“With so many incredible natural sights to be enjoyed, our Ningaloo region is a photographer’s delight, so it was no surprise to receive such a diverse range of amazing images for our 2016 competition,” she said.

“The Ningaloo is famed for its underwater experiences, but we also received a lot of stunning images that showcased some of the terrestrial attractions from our World Heritage-listed Ningaloo region.”

More than 400 entries were received this year, with winners announced last month.
