Nominations are now open for this year’s Western Australian Regional Achievement and Community Awards.

People are encouraged to nominate individuals, businesses or community groups they feel have made a significant impact or contribution to their community.

There are 11 categories and one overall state winner.

The Pilbara was well represented at last year’s awards, with Tom Price diesel supplier taking out both the Landcorp Sustainability Award and the Regional Development Overall State Winner.

Ashoil converts cooking oil collected from surrounding mining camps into biodiesel directly offsetting diesel usage.

The indigenously owned company also trains Aboriginal people wishing to enter the resource sector and high school students in an effort to improve school attendance.

Karratha Enviro Group also won the CSBP Environment Award for their work creating the Karratha Community Garden, the Consumed Recycled Art Awards and the Plastic Bag Free Karratha initiative.

To submit a nomination, visit awardsaustralia.com.

Nominations close on August 3.
