Olympian visits pony club

CAMERON MYLESPilbara News

Olympic equestrian Sonja Johnson paid a visit to the Pilbara at the end of May to give a few lessons in horse riding at the King Bay Horse and Pony Club.

The silver medal winner ran courses in jumping and crosscountry riding, teaching some of the younger members of the club the tips of the trade.

King Bay Horse and Pony Club rally co-ordinator Helen Kotzem said Johnson was a great role model and pushed the younger members of the club to go further with their riding.

Johnson held a three-day clinic while in Karratha and covered the theoretical aspect of horse riding as well as practical, hands-on classes.

Mrs Kotzem said the Olympian was a great role model and gave the riders good advice in regards to looking after themselves and their horses.
