Youth Week finished with a bang when The Base Wickham and the Youth Shed hosted a full day of all-out paintball war.

About 100 young City of Karratha residents flocked to Wickham Oval, where they were decked out in full-length army camouflage, vests and face masks before entering the inflatable paintball battlefield.

There, the troops were divided into two teams of five and faced off for supremacy.

Pilbara company Paintball Eruption ran the event

Company owner Daniel Liebenberg said despite the sport’s fun public image, “it’s an intense game”.

Some 28 rounds were held over the course of the day, most lasting no more than five minutes, with some participants going back in the ring multiple times.

Even two of the Karratha police youth crime intervention officers came down, although they declined to join in on a game for fear of becoming prime targets.

The Youth Shed holds a paintball event to celebrate the end of Youth Week every year.
