As the Pilbara prepares to mourn the second anniversary of the tragic death of Swino next week, our region’s police officers welcomed the newest recruit to their team in honour of the infamous pig.

PC Porkchop, pictured, has been in training for some time and finally stepped onto the frontline today.

Pilbara District Superintendent Jo McCabe said the perky new addition would be travelling through the region with Pilbara police officers delivering important safety messages to the community.

“This is a great policing initiative for our Pilbara community to connect with their local police,” she said.

“PC Porkchop is a light hearted theme aimed to deliver public road safety information whilst increasing our social media reach and following.”

Thesus scrofa domesticus pig to you and I police officer will be photographed around the region and displayed on the Pilbara District Facebook page.

He will be strategically placed in some of the most picturesque and diverse places where the community will be called upon to guess where he is.

Supt. McCabe said the police intended to reach out and engage with children, including making him available for photographic opportunities to bring a smile to their faces.

On his first day PC Porkchop got behind the radar gun and helped conduct random breath tests around Karratha.
