Pilbara musicians and bands will have the opportunity to play on the main stage at the year’s Beats in the Heat festival.

A Battle of the Bands competition will be held on this Saturday, June 18, at the Karratha Tavern from 7pm.

There will be $5 entry at the door for those wishing to come along.

A panel of judges will decide who gets to share the stage with acts such as British India, the Cat Empire and Drapht.

Event organiser Bart Parson encourages bands and musicians with “a little bit of talent and/or a sense of humour” to apply and hopes the competition will give the winning act some great exposure to kick-start their career.

All money raised the event will go to Local Information Network Karratha, a not-for-profit organisation which aims to empower parents through education and support.

Event organiser Bart Parsons said he chose to donate to LINK because they are both an important and local cause.

“They fit our demographic and help children and families overcome a range of issues,” he said.

Bands wanting to enter need to email bart@blanchebar.com.au by tomorrow.

Beats in the Heat is a two-day all ages camping and music festival held at Karratha entertainment centre from June 24-25.

Headliners include John Williamson, Yolanda Be Cool, Potbelleez, KLP and Mashd N Kutcher.

A lineup of locals acts has been added to the bill including Panda, Genga and Corey David.

There will be camping available as well as a silent disco which will go into the early hours of the morning, beer and wine tents, food vendors and market stalls,
