Pilbara port throughput rises

Pilbara Ports Authority handled a 7 per cent increase in throughput from the same time last year.

Port Hedland and Dampier saw a combined throughput of 53.7 million tonnes for the month of March.

The Port of Port Hedland is up by 8 per cent from the previous year, with a monthly throughput of 39.9 million tonnes.

Iron ore exports totalled 39.5 million tonnes, and imports increased 42 per cent to 47,000 tonnes.

Dampier Port achieved 13.7 million tonnes of monthly throughput, which is a 6 per cent increase from March of last year.

Imports were up by 19,000 tonnes, or 30 per cent, with 84,000 tonnes coming in.
