Pilbara pupils come out tops

Year 12 exam results are now in, and the report card shows there is no shortage of academic high achievers in the Pilbara.

St Luke’s College in Karratha was the only Pilbara school to make the School Curriculum and Standards Authority’s list of top 50 schools, released this month.

The list is based on the proportion of students who achieve an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank of 75 or higher in WA Certificate of Education stage-three courses.

St Luke’s came in at number 49, its highest WACE rank so far.

The school also gained its first 99-plus ATAR score student — not once but twice.

College dux Anshula Ashish and Jayank Senger, both 17, achieved ATARs of 99.65, leading a strong Year 12 cohort in which 20 per cent of WACE stage-three students ranked 90 or higher.

Anshula also received a Certificate of Commendation for 20 or more A-grades over her final two years.

St Luke’s and Tom Price Senior High School made the top 50 list for Certificate II Vocational Education and Training studies.

Tom Price also ranked in the Certificate I list and registered a 100 per cent course completion rate for both VET categories.

St Luke’s principal Alanna Otway said their Year 12 results were a credit to students’ hard work.

Karratha girl Tessa Laing, a boarder at St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School in Perth, also excelled. She won four awards, including a Course Exhibition as top student in Media Production and Analysis and a Certificate of Distinction in Visual Arts.
