The women’s and men’s Pirates have each won their respective games in the Karratha Water Polo Association’s Grand Finals.

In the Women’s Grand Final Pirates defeated minor premiers Barracudas 10 – 3.

When Barracudas were able to slow the game down their defensive pressure held up well and injured goalkeeper Susan Giles worked tirelessly saving a number of goals.

The Men’s Grand Final was a thriller with Pirates narrowly getting over the line with a 4 - 3 win against Krakens.

Pirates went into the game as firm favourites and got off to a strong start with three-nil first quarter.

Krakens dominated the play in the second half and will be ruing a couple of one on one shot’s in front of goal in the last quarter which missed the mark.

A last ditch shot from Mason Watts was unable to beat goalie Dan Glover and Krakens fell just short of drawing the game.

Belinda Brookes and Justin Angove were named most valuable players for the men’s and women’s games.

At the awards presentation on Saturday night, Anouska and Justin Angove took out the men’s and women’s fairest and best and highest goal scorer categories.

Pirates’ goalkeeper Dan Glover was named most improved male player and Jess Newbold was most improved women’s player.

Tristan Lynn was named club person of the year.

The Karratha Water Polo Association will be running a Fast 4’s competition during the off-season on Thursday nights, more information can be found on the Association’s Facebook page.
