Spirit Radio's Pablo Newton Farley will put his fitness to the test in a "race-off" with Perth Wildcats captain Damian Martin in the Karratha Chevron City 2 Surf at the end of this month.

It seems a bit of friendly rivalry sparked between the two during a radio interview last week, which resulted in the basketball star challenging the morning show host with a race-off in the 12km leg of the run.

Newton Farley took on the challenge with confidence and joked he had some tricks up his sleeve to ensure victory.

"I'm planning to handicap Damo with some weights to stop him lapping me," he said. Newton Farley also issued a challenge to former West Coast Eagles player Scott Cummings, inviting him to join the 12km race-off.

During the interview, Martin agreed to put the pressure on Cummings to accept the challenge.

"I better ramp up the training. From what I hear you are quite the runner," he said.

Martin encouraged Karratha listeners to get involved.

Karratha's Chevron City to Surf for Activ will take place on July 27.
