Rec Club claw way to win over Crabs

Blustery conditions greeted teams across the City of Karratha for round 4 of the T20 cricket competition.

The wind seems to have favoured the underdogs as each match went to the away team, all of which were placed lower on the ladder.

The undefeated Pegs Creek Crabs got off to a modest start against the Rec Club, reaching 29 without a loss before losing the wickets of Paul Marion and Daniel Carse in quick succession.

The Crabs continued to build slowly but a middle-order collapse prevented them from gaining any momentum in the back half of their innings.

Bevan Meston top scored with 28 as the Crabs limped to 9-112 after their 20 overs. Sam O'Hare proved the difference with the ball, sparking the collapse with four wickets including that of Meston after he had settled in.

After starring with the ball, O'Hare got off to a slow start with the bat and departed for 10 off 16 balls.

Fellow opener Luke Breman looked in good touch as he raced away to 23 off 21 deliveries before coming off injured.

Shane Miles took the reins for the Rec Club, guiding them to victory on the last ball of the 19th over with a commanding 52 off 37 balls, including two sixes.

Out at Windy Ridge in Dampier, the Taverners got off to a flying start against the Karratha Kats through openers Mark Saunders and Ryan Trewin.

But the Taverners could not capitalise on their strong start, stuttering to 6-137 after 20 overs. The Kats could not have got off to a worse start with both openers departing for nought.

Jackson Davey and Ethan Surrall steadied the ship before Craig Ford took the game away from the home side with a match- winning half century.
