Red can plan for the full slab
Anchovy Flats' plus-sized Emu Export can may not be alone for long, with plans afoot to replicate the big bush chook.
The Facebook campaign, dubbed Karratha Project Red Can, started last week with templates, pricing and instructions for anyone wanting to contribute to the salt flats' road runner repertoire.
Project creator Kara Theanne said the campaign was needed because no Kimberley cool fan would be happy with only one drink.
"No one goes to the bottle-o and buys just one can of Export, you need the whole slab," she said.
"Emu is a West Australian cult icon and rightfully deserves to be enshrined.
"I can't wait to see more cans made to join the existing big can on the salt flats."
Ms Theanne said the project would hopefully encourage more artwork to be built for Anchovy Flats.
There was a mixed response to the announcement on Karratha's social media pages, with some labelling the project irresponsible, even going so far as to say they would organise a petition to remove the supersized cans if they appeared.
Critics claimed the red can sculpture was advertising alcohol and would be seen by children.
