Red Dog team seeks Pilbara pups for film's Blue prequel

The film crew behind the box office hit Red Dog are looking for Pilbara puppies to star in their new feature film about the early days of the much-loved Pilbara wanderer.

The story of Red Dog captured the hearts of people all around the world after producer Nelson Woss released a movie adaptation in 2011, which won Best Film at the 2012 AACTA Awards and grossed more than $21 million at the box office.

The next installment of the Red Dog tale is expected to start filming next month and it is believed members of the crew have been scouting for locations across the Pilbara.

Woss said his team was also on the hunt for red kelpie pups for one particular scene.

"We would like Pilbara puppies because it is far less stressful to the dogs than flying young puppies from interstate or even from Perth," he said.

"They do need to be red kelpie puppies born in the month of March to work with our schedule."

Woss said he would be looking for "two-legged" extras when they formally start filming.

He said the crew was also looking for vintage cars and motorbikes.

"They need to be from the 60s or earlier and be farm-used vehicles ideally," he said.

Woss said the Blue Dog film crew would be on location for about three months to put the spotlight back on the Pilbara and showcase the region's extraordinary landscapes.

"We are extremely thankful for all of the brilliant contributions made by the local Pilbara community on both Red Dog and so far on Blue Dog," he said.

If you are living in the Pilbara and have a red kelpie puppy born in March, or a vintage vehicle, please contact the Blue Dog production crew on bluedogpuppies@gmail.com.
