Regional gang members 'not immune' from police attention

Pilbara News

Police have warned gang members they aren't immune from attention just because they are in a regional area.

The tough warning came after West Pilbara detectives and officers from the Gang Crime Squad executed 11 search warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act over two days as part of the ongoing targeting of members and associates of the newly formed, North West Chapter of the Rebels OMCG.

A press statement issued by police this morning said that as a result of the warrants, 12 people had been charged with 20 offences, mostly relating to drugs, - both illicit and steroids - weapons and property offences.

Those charged are set to appear in the Karratha Magistrates Court in June and July.

"This joint operation highlights the fact that any organised crime activity, particularly those perpetrated by OMCG members and associates will be the target of police operations," the statement read.

"The supply of illicit drugs (particularly methylamphetamine) into Regional WA communities continues to be a high priority to WA Police - those involved in this criminal activity are not immune from police attention merely because they are in Regional WA."
