Residents run for cancer charity

Hundreds of Karratha residents skipped breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day in favour of gathering in Cattrall Park and competing in a fun run to help overcome breast cancer.

The Mother’s Day Classic charity fun run “painted Karratha pink” for another year as participants of all ages took on a 4km walk or run or an 8km run around the perimeter of Pegs Creek.

This year’s event was a huge hit as always, despite having been put together in record time, and there was plenty of entertainment for participants to enjoy.

Mother’s Day Classic committee chairwoman Angie Ayers said it was great to see people from all demographics so enthusiastic to get involved.

“The cause touches all of us — male, female, old, young, whoever it is, and you definitely see that reflected in the event,” she said.

“Everyone’s got a story of somebody they know who’s gone through it, and we all want to make the world a better place so it doesn’t exist in the future.

“I think that’s what we saw with everyone coming together.”

The Mother’s Day Classic raises money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
