Roebourne celebration plans coalesce

Roebourne’s 150th anniversary celebrations are set to go off with a bang as the City of Karratha finalises plans for community events and commemorations.

With a $100,000 budget, the council is putting on four celebratory concepts, including a program of events, community-designed T-shirts, an interpretive panel for Roebourne Town Cemetery, town sculptures and honour board.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said the concepts were heavily influenced by community consultations.

“These final concepts are the result of significant consultation with the community over a number of months, including many public meetings at Andover Park, where all were encouraged to share thoughts and ideas on how best to acknowledge the 150th anniversary of the town,” he said.

“Through these meetings the community and City of Karratha officers were able to work together to collate a list of potential ideas and the final concepts were decided via preference voting.”

The City will also be continuing to progress the Roebourne Heritage Trail, Ngurin Bush Tucker Trail, Mt Welcome Lookout and pictorial history book projects to coincide with Roebourne 150 acknowledgements.

The program of events is yet to be finalised, but ideas include a cemetery memorial day, concert, film night, football match and town open day.
