School kids make a splash

Tom Price, North Tom Price and Paraburdoo primary schools competed in their interschool swimming carnival last term with Paraburdoo named champion school.

The event was held at the Vic Hayton Memorial Pool and hosted by Tom Price Primary School.

Paraburdoo finished on 469 points, followed by North Tom Price Primary on 314 and Tom Price on 298 points in the overall award.

The grand relay was one of the highlights of the day. This event involved each school’s fastest freestyle swimmers, both girls and boys from Years 4-7.

All schools put up a great fight but it was Paraburdoo who proved to be the strongest team taking home first place.

Besides the actual racing action a “bombie competition” proved to be very popular.

Judges Lisa McMillan, Troy Withers and Andrew Bilsby found very interesting ways to judge the competition from the biggest splash to the best technique.

Tom Price Primary School health and physical education teacher Skye Liikanen said the day was a great success and ran very smoothly.

“This could have not been done without the wonderful staff and parents within the region, so I thank you for your ongoing support,” she said.

“The students’ behaviour and sportsmanship was exceptional. “They should all be very proud of themselves and big congratulations to our champions and runner-ups for the day.”
