Karratha is a little less hirsute after the weekend as dozens of residents shaved their heads - and in one man's case waxed his chest - to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave.

Ten-year-old Wickham Primary School student Keely Williams had her head shaved in front of her friends at school last Thursday and looked happy and relieved once it was over.

"At least I won't have any hair to do in the morning, I'm so happy," she said.

"I want to say thank you for everyone who sponsored and supported me today - I can't thank them enough."

Hairy Home Hardware employee Rob Truarn bit the bullet on Friday, nominating to wax his chest instead, much to the amusement of onlookers.

Mr Truarn said after the pain had subsided he had collected about $1500 for the Leukaemia Foundation.

Yari Chinchilla waited until Saturday evening to shave her long hair off before a large crowd at the Tambrey.

Ms Chinchilla said she was nervous on the day but could not stop smiling after seeing how much she had raised.

"I'm so happy to have raised more than I asked for, I'm still counting the money now," she said.

"My friends shaved their heads as well, which surprised me.

"Even one of my friends who lives in Switzerland donated."

Karratha City shopping centre collected more than $400 as their resident hairdressers cut and dyed hair in a three-hour event at the weekend.

Keely raised nearly $6500, Ms Chinchilla accumulated more than $8000 and a charity cricket match hosted by MMA Offshore raked in more than $15,000.
