Skills in focus as institute hosts contest
Pilbara Institute called on regional apprentices, trainees and tradespeople to come forward and show their skills in competition for an opportunity to partake in the World Skills Australia nationals.
Pilbara Institute has been hosting the Pilbara regional round of the World Skills Australia competition during October.
The competition focuses on four major skill areas of Electrical Control, Mechanical Fitting, Business Administration and Heavy Fabrication.
Pilbara Institute managing director of Marlene Boundy said she was excited about showcasing the skills learnt by past and present apprentices and trainees of the Institute.
“The World Skills competition is a fantastic opportunity for apprentices and past apprentices to showcase their skills in a competitive environment,” she said.
“Pilbara Institute hosts these events every two years. They are a great opportunity for apprentices and trainees to represent their TAFE and their employer at a national competition.”
“In 2013 we had three winners from electrotechnology, mechanical and business who went on to compete in the national titles in 2014.”
World Skills Australia is a biannual completion, celebrating excellence in vocational education and training.
All current apprentices and trainees in these areas as well as those who have completed their training and are below the age of 23 are eligible to apply.
Regional rounds flow into national competitions, where the winners can then join the Skillaroos team to represent Australia on the international stage.
