Spoil your mum on her special day

Courtney FowlerPilbara News

Mothers are our role models, protectors and unconditional friends.

When we were children, they changed our nappies, covered our bruises and wiped away our tears.

Growing up, they provide a listening ear and unwavering support that can stem only from a mother's love.

It's easy to take our mums for granted, which is why it's important to take a day to celebrate our wonderful mothers and female role models and reflect on all they have done for us through the years.

If you are stuck on what to do for your mum, there's nothing like a bunch of flowers with breakfast in bed to show our Pilbara mothers they are appreciated on their special day.

Karratha Florist and Red Earth Flowers are taking orders for flower deliveries this week and will be open on Mother's Day this Sunday until lunchtime.

Karratha Florist assistant manager Lisa Solari said orientals and chrysanthemums were their most popular arrangements for Mother's Day.

"It's so lovely seeing the look on mums' faces when we deliver, there's nothing like a simple bunch of flowers to let a mum know they're appreciated," she said.

"We also get a lot of partners ordering flowers for the FIFO ladies in town - it's nice that we can provide this service so they don't get forgotten on their special day."

Red Earth Flowers owner Melissa Thompson said they would have a whole new range of flower arrangements available this Mother's Day.

"Lilies and tulips are always a favourite but we have specially ordered some more exotic flowers to offer our customers something a bit more unique," she said.

"We deliver to Roebourne and Wickham on Saturday and Sunday morning, so those families out of town can rest easy, knowing fresh flowers will arrive on their doorstep in time for Mother's Day."

A ticket to the Cossack Wellness Retreat is perfect for all Pilbara dads wanting to give their hard-working partners some time away from the children to relax and be pampered.

The Wickham Recreational Precinct is offering the perfect opportunity for mums to rejuvenate their mind, body and spirit with a weekend away filled with yoga, meditation and pampering.

City of Karratha recreation officer Claire Hale said the $399 package included one night accommodation in the newly renovated rooms at Cossack, on May 23-24.

"It will be a very holistic weekend based around meditation and beautiful fresh food and produce," she said.

"Participants will be guided by Kim Riodan, a yoga instructor with more than 20 years of experience and will have the opportunity to be pampered by beauticians and masseurs who will be on site.

"Tickets are limited, so call 9186 8684 or email wickhamrec@karratha.wa.gov.au for further details."

Finally, if you are looking to take your mum out for a meal for her special day, treat her to the Mother's Day buffet lunch at the ibis Styles Karratha.

Chef Vicky D'Souza said a buffet was an affordable option for families who wanted to spend the afternoon together.

"It is only $35 for all you can eat, including a complimentary glass of wine for every mother who dines with us," he said.

"Bookings can be made by calling 9159 1000 and walk-ins will, as always, be welcomed by our staff."

With so many wonderful options available locally, there's no excuse not to do something special.
