Karratha Storm has won a high-tempo and high temper game against the Karratha Broncos by 24 points in Bulgarra at the weekend.

The Storm got on the board early and never looked back, making valuable gains through the middle and down the wings.

Down 16-nil at half-time, the Broncos crossed the line through Cyril Simmonds, but it would prove to be their one and only incursion beyond the uprights.

The Broncos had plenty of forward momentum but rarely looked to threaten the tryline, coughing up the ball a number of times in attack.

In the tense final 15 minutes players on both sides struggled to keep their cool as big hits and handling errors came to the fore.

As the final siren went Mitch Willmot, one of the aggressors in several flare-ups, took off down the wing for a 40-metre try to bring the final score to 30-6.

Storm coach Morgan Leaf said it was good to see a bit of mongrel in both teams.

"I was quite happy with the defensive side of things, we are working much better at getting numbers into the tackle," he said.

"Staum (Selwyn) got a bit of a rev-up and was running like a man possessed at times.

"It was good to be able to control (Anthony) Lolohea too.

"He has been having his way all season."

Leaf said the team was almost at full potential but it was still too early to be thinking about playing in the finals.

This weekend the Wickham Wasps will be back in action against the Port Hedland Hawks in front of the Bistro.

The Storm were due to play the Roosters, but the Roosters have pulled out for the season.
