Students make sailors' Christmas special

CHRIS LEESPilbara News

International seafarers will have plenty to celebrate this Christmas thanks to students from Dampier Primary School.

Parents and students have begun compiling gift boxes full of non-perishable food, personal items and other gifts.

Student Jazz Van Dongen brought fishing line and some other gifts for the international seafarers.

She said she hoped they would really enjoy their Christmas presents.

Teacher Sue Mitchell said there were items not only for the seafarers but also their families.

Ms Mitchell said amongst the items were teddy bears for children and plenty of things for wives and girlfriends.

Student Leroy McCawley explained why they chose the seafarers to support.

“We’re giving to the seafarers because they’re away from their families at Christmas time,” he said.
