Swans maintain winning streak after Falcons defeat
Reigning premiers the South Hedland Swans League have maintained their winning streak with a confident win over the Karratha Falcons.
The teams started out evenly matched in their Saturday round 3 clash at Bulgarra Oval, with Falcons having the bulk of scoring chances — 1.6 to the Swans’ 1.0 in the first quarter.
But South Hedland kicked it up a notch from there to significantly extend their score and get in lead position by half-time, going to the break 5-6 (36) to 2-7 (19).
They maintained that form for the rest of the match.
The home side tried to keep in step and did not let the game run away from them, but it was not enough.
They lost by 24 points, 11-12 (78) to 7-12 (54).
Swans had two top goal scorers in Steele Viti and Adam Dejagweem who scored three each.
The result means that at round 3, South Hedland are so far unbeaten and on top of the League ladder, ahead of the Wickham Wolves on percentage.
Falcons have not yet won a game despite putting in some strong performances, including a one-point loss to the Dampier Sharks in round 1.
The Falcons Reserves had much better luck where they put in a high-scoring effort to thrash the Swans Reserves 17-13 (115) to 3-6 (24).
Swans had a bad day on the scoreboard and only managed 1.1 over the first three quarters, though they improved in the final term.
Meanwhile the Falcons had a field day scoring 7-3 (45) in the first quarter alone and barely slowed down from there.
