Operation of the City of Karratha’s two visitor centres has gone out to an expression of interest process, which could see the service turn into a for-profit model.

City of Karratha Mayor Peter Long said it was prudent to test the market for the best value-for-money operator.

“Council has been discussing changes to the delivery of visitor services for quite some time now, recognising that two separate City-funded visitor centres was difficult to sustain,” he said.

“Our existing visitor centres have the opportunity to collaborate and submit a response in the expression of interest process, and we will also see what other providers might be out there.”

The expressions of interest process closes today, with a decision on whether to proceed to be made next year.
