Wickham projects get a helping hand

More than $7000 has been distributed among 12 community groups after the success of Wickham's inaugural Soundslave fundraiser.

The event was held in September last year at the Wickham Bar and Bistro, and attracted more than 200 people.

Funding was given to a variety of programs, including a school camp, and will pay for travel for a group of local women to compete in the next Blackwood Marathon in Bridgetown, and to buy sports equipment.

Soundslave was sponsored by local businesses, including Cossack Crane Hire, Taniwha Security, Wickham Bar and Bistro and Pilbara Hire.

Pilbara Hire representative Daryl Pickering was on hand to present recipients with their cheques.

"Pilbara Hire pride themselves on supporting local fundraising events, and highly value the need for helping these worthy causes," he said.

"Soundslave is one of these events and we pride ourselves on being a major supporter.

"We wish Soundslave all the best in the future and Pilbara Hire will continue to contribute to the communities that our guys are a part of."

Pilbara Hire provides full turnkey, on-site repair and maintenance services throughout WA mine sites, with a focus on civil maintenance, mobile mining and fixed plant equipment.

The next Soundslave event is scheduled for April 2014 and will be held at the Port Walcott Yacht Club. Transport will be provided.

It will again be a fundraising event, with all profits earmarked for a community project at the Wickham Recreation Precinct.
